Meet Our Leadership
Pastor Roger Mathis was born June 21, 1968 in Darlington County, South Carolina. He committed his life to the Lord in 1983 and answered God‘s call into the ministry in 1993. His educational accomplishments are graduating high school from St. John’s High School in Darlington, receiving of his Bachelor of Music from the University of South Carolina in Columbia in 1992 and a Master of Divinity with Biblical Languages from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1997.
Pastor Roger Mathis has served as a Minister of Youth at Black Creek Baptist Church where he was ordained as a deacon and licensed into the Gospel Ministry. He then served as a Minister of Music and Youth at Hocutt Memorial Baptist Church of Clayton, NC. He was ordained in 1997 by Baptist Temple Church of Reidsville, NC where he served as an Associate Pastor and Minister of Music. In 1999 he planted and became the pastor of Living Hope Community Church of Reidsville along with the help of the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina and the North American Mission Board. He was also the worship leader for New Horizon of Greensboro during its early years as a new church. He has served here in Gastonia, North Carolina as pastor of Unity Baptist Church since February 17, 2008.
Pastor Roger Mathis married Brandy Smith of Reidsville in July of 2000 and they have two boys, Brandon and Eben. Apart from his ministry he enjoys music, reading, golf, outdoor activities and playing with his children.
Rev. Fred Weber was born November 27, 1957 in Enid Oklahoma. He committed his life to the Lord at age 12 and answered God’s call into the ministry in 1990 while serving in the United States Army stationed at Fort Carson, Colorado Springs, Colorado. His educational accomplishments are graduating high school from Enid High School, Enid Oklahoma in 1976, receiving of his Bachelor of Science with Music and Business concentrations from Phillips University, Enid, Oklahoma in 1982 and a Master of Music with studies in Christian Education from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, Fort Worth, Texas in 1997.
Rev. Fred Weber served bi-vocational music ministries in Colorado Springs, Colorado with Calvary Baptist Church and Pleasant Valley Baptist Church where he was ordained as a deacon in 1992, one bi-vocational music ministry in Fort Worth Texas at Burton Hill Baptist Church while in seminary, leading to his first full time ministry as Music and Christian Education in 1996 at First Baptist Church of Anson, Texas. Upon seminary graduation, Rev. Fred Weber was called to North Carolina in1998 to Faith Baptist Church, Faith, North Carolina as Minister of Music and was ordained into the gospel ministry in 1999, then in 2003 to First Baptist Church, Locust, North Carolina and in 2007 to Antioch Baptist Church, Lincolnton, North Carolina. He has been with Unity Baptist Church as full time Minister of Music and Education since August 22, 2010. Rev. Fred Weber has served three associations in ministry positions of education ministries for the Anson , Texas association while serving at First Baptist Church, Anson, Texas and in association ministries for Rowan and Stanly Baptist Associations in North Carolina. He has served the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina Worship and Music since 2002 as the Instrumental Team Chairman since 2002 and has participated with the North Carolina Baptist Singers and Orchestra since 1998.
Rev. Fred Weber married Denise Rauch September 14, 1979. Fred and Denise met on the 50 yard line practice field of the Valiant Knights Drum and Bugle Corps where Denise carried a flag in the color guard and Fred played a baritone and bass bugle. They have three children, a son who lives in Texas with a wife and two children, a daughter living in Virginia with a husband and two children and another daughter living in North Carolina with her husband giving Fred and Denise a family including 4 grandchildren.
Sandy Railey was born in Mount Airy, NC. She is a graduate of East Surry High School in Pilot Mountain, NC. Shortly after graduating she moved to Gaston County, got married and started a family. She went to work for Simplex Grinnell Fire Protection in 1985 and served in multiple positions throughout the company for twenty years. Sandy has four children and six grandchildren and loves being “Nana”. She has a passion for music and sings with a group called Hearts Desire. Sandy and her husband, Ken, reside in Lowell, NC but love spending as much time as possible at Sunset Beach. We welcomed Sandy to our staff on January 19, 2015.
Charlene High was born in Knoxville, Tennessee. She is a graduate of Stanley High School of Stanley, North Carolina, has received a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Meredith College, North Carolina, has a Certificate Diploma in Early Childhood Education, a Master of Arts Education from Wake Forest University and a Certificate in Counseling K-12. Charlene comes to Unity Baptist Church as the supply church pianist with 26 years experience of playing and ministry experiences in youth choirs, children’s choirs and previous church piano positions.
Billy Adams is a native resident of Gastonia, North Carolina born and "raised" in the city life. He is a high school graduate, 1972 of Hunter Huss High School of Gastonia. He is the longest standing staff member of Unity Baptist Church since his start date of November 29, 1993. Billy is married to Diana Adams and they are the proud parents of Lakeitha and Cherish Adams.
